Visa application tips 签证办理

To ensure a smooth process, apply for your visa as early as possible (at least 1–2 months before travel). Rules and processing times vary by country, so check your local Chinese embassy/consulate for specifics.

1. Visa Types for Attendees

  • Tourist ("L") Visa (Recommended for most attendees):

    • No invitation letter required (simplest option).

    • Validity: 30 days to 10 years (depends on nationality, entry frequency, and embassy discretion).

    • Cost: 60– 60–140 (varies by nationality/processing speed).

    • Tip: Some consulates issue multi-entry L visas for frequent travelers (e.g., 1-year/10-year validity for eligible passports like the US).

  • Business ("M"/"F") Visa:

    • Required if attending paid work/academic activities (e.g., speaking for a fee).

    • Invitation letter from a Chinese host (e.g., conference organizer) may be needed.

    • Alternative: Apply for an L visa if your stay is short and unpaid.

  • Other Visas (Less common for conferences):

    • Student ("X") Visa: For long-term study programs.

    • Work ("Z") Visa: Requires employer sponsorship and medical checks.

2. Key Requirements

  • Documents: Passport (6+ months validity), application form, photo, flight/hotel bookings.

  • Invitation Letter (if applicable): Some consulates may request one for M/F visas—confirm with your embassy.

  • Health Declarations: COVID-19 testing/quarantine rules have been lifted, but check for updates.

3. Where to Apply

  • Chinese embassies/consulates in your home country.

4. Recent Changes (2024–2025)

  • Tourist visas (L) are widely available again, including multi-entry options.

  • Faster processing: Some embassies offer express services (3–5 days) for urgent trips.

  • 10-year L visas: Still available for citizens of the US, Canada, and other eligible countries.

5. Pro Tips

  • Double-check your visa duration/entries (e.g., a "single-entry" visa expires after one use).

  • Hong Kong/Macau arrivals: These SARs have separate entry rules; a Chinese visa is not required if staying only in HK/Macau.

  • For the latest info: Contact your local Chinese embassy or use VisaForChina.
